Best method to archive log files

Hi I have 40 linux servers and need to copy various log files from them on a regular basis and store somewhere, e.g. messages, maillog and a few others.

Is there an easy utility that just does this or do I have to start writing scripts and setting up passwordless ssh all over the place to scp them?

This must be done by every sysadmin since time began it's just that I'm not a great scripter and also I'm kind of under a time constraint.

Thanks for any help.

The utility is syslog and it can do this easily. You'll have to 'touch' each server to get a conf file on each.

How to use rsyslog? the line that says
"Add these lines to a .conf file you create in /etc/rsyslog.d/50-default.conf" in that reply should read
"Add these lines to a .conf file you create in /etc/rsyslog.d/"

NOT "Add these lines to a .conf file you create in /etc/rsyslog.d/50-default.conf
as /etc/rsyslog.d/50-default.conf may already exist.

Let us know how you get on with this.
