best distro for a 1.2gb HDD + low mem?
 
Looking to put a working linux on an OLD sys, serial mouse! unfotunatly it only has a 1.2 gb HD & very little mem. the CPU is an AMD K7 i think...
any ideas? needs to be able to connect to windows network...

any distro should do really. in your profile, it says you're using slack 10. slack is good for old computers (i think 486 and up) and low memory (like 8MB or even less). just do a custom install with not a lot of packages, and use the low mem kernel if you've got less than 8MB ram.

Your box probably isn't a lowmem box, so almost anythimg should run.

Now my laptop with 4MB of ram, that's lowmem!

preferably something easy to set up? i am now on college 2.5 and can't get that to work amazingly well and never even managed to get slack to run higher than 800*600. its not lowmem as such, just not much of it...

well, the LQ forums can always help you setup your box if you have any problems, but if slack isn't your thing, you might want to try VectorLinux. but like i said before, almost any distro setup correctly can run on an old system.
