bash ctrl+a not working!

I'm unable to return to the beginning of a line by doing ctrl+A or the end of a line with ctrl+e! ctrl+r, ctrl+w and all the others I can find work (including the arrow keys) so why should ctrl+a and ctrl+e not work? Is it more likely to be bash or my terminal emulator - I run teraterm.

Thanks

if you switch to another virtual console (ctrl+alt+F2) does it work?

Sorry I should have said I'm ssh'd in.

Incidentally Ctrl A works when I'm ssh'd into the cisco kit so it wouldn't seem to be teraterm...
