Bad Magic Number in SuperBlock

The title says just about all of it. I've tried using the backup superblock with the commands mke2fs -n <dev> and e2fsck -b <block> <dev> with no luck. I tried all the listed backups of the superblock but nothing worked. I'd like to repair the filesystem if possible, but if that's not an option, then data recovery will have to be the solution. I've fixed a few file systems, but I've never done data recovery on Linux before.

It'd be awesome if someone could help me with some direction. Thanks a lot.

Are you specifying the Drive (/dev/sdb) or the partition (/dev/sdb1) as parameters to these commands?

I was using the partition number too. Funny thing though, it 'fixed' itself. I don't know how or why, but it's fine now. A motherboard died on me and that's how the problem came up, I guess the improper shutdown did something. I'm not sure, but all is well. Thanks a lot.
