bad lilo behave under Debian

Hey,

I'm using a Fasttrak Promise TX2000 with a RAID 1.
No other IDE or SCSI disk are inside.

So I managed to boot from floppy and see the raid device
as /dev/sda. I also see the /dev/hda and /dev/hdb devices,
but never touched them because it will mess up my raid.

I installed the base system via floppy boot and network.
Now it's at the step to boot from harddisk and continue the
installation, but if i boot without disks I only get this output:
L 01 01 01 01 01 01 .....

the output of 01 goes much further then stops and nothing happens
anymore then.

I looked again at the lilo.conf and it looks pretty good.
I also made a initrd image because it is needed.

Does anyone know something about this strange behaviour ??
I never saw it before and my knowledge is at its end

Ciao Ephraim

Hey again,

for all how experience the same problem,
the raid was not the first disk... as lilo warned
and so it couldn't boot from it...
in the lilo.conf uncomment or add the following
and it will work:

disk=/dev/hde
bios=0x80
disk=/dev/ataraid/d0
bios=0x81

This i got from:

Installing a Promise FastTrak ATA/133 RAID Card using Debian Linux

and it was also ready in my lilo.conf but commented out

Hey,
it's me again

I get always when the disk are working errors like this:
FastTrak: Drive Interrupt timeout.(3), status = 0x.....
FastTrak: RESET Channel2 * Dev3(OK), status = 0x....

Does anyone knows something about this?

I googled around found some russian sites but couldn't read them
and i found other sides which mentioned that i ve
to add in the lilo.conf this:
append="ide0=0x1f0,0x3f6,14 ide1=0x170,0x376,15 ide2=0 ide3=0 ide4=0 ide5=0 ide6=0 ide7=0 ide8=0 ide9=0"

but still the same prob.
And then i tried because of another post anywhere
cat /proc/pci
found the addresses of my promise,
which are 0xfcc8 0xfcd8 0xfcd0 0xfcdc 0xfce0
that i ve to change ide2 and ide3 in the append line to:
ide2=0xfcc8,0xfcda ide3=0xfcd0,0xfcde

But also still the same prob.

Please help!!

Hi
I also have the same problem, though I have installed Suse9. Installation work perfect, and I can boot with the installation CD, but not from harddrive.
I use the TX2000 as well.

Have you even got the system to boot directly from harddrive or do you still have to use a bootdisk?

No got it to boot from the RAID,
by using an initrd image.

But I get always error messages like this:
FastTrak: Drive Interrupt Timeout.(3), status = 0x6......
FastTrak: RESET Channel2 * Dev3(OK), status = 0x6.....

I changed the hardware configuration, so the drives are now master
and slave, except master and master. Now the message appears not as
often as before, but still appears

Do you know what this shit is?

Ciao Ephraim

I had this issue when installing Debian Woody with adaptec 2940 with a 1 SCSI disk and an ide disk as well.
The debian system was installed on to the scsi disk and I was leaving the ide disk for later.

To get around the problem I booted from floppy, and set the lilo.conf option for the mbr to be writen on the partition instead of the disk. In my case the second partition on the first scsi disk:

# boot=/dev/sda

boot=/dev/sda2

and then re-ran lilo

I hope this helps
