bad blocks/disk pb
Hello,
Is it possible to determine if a disk has bad blocks ? Are they recovrable ? how do I do that ? I've had disks problems on a SuSE 8.1 and the system booted in "maintenance mode". Only root login was allowed or reboot, and the disks were not mounted. I launched fsck /dev/sda5 and this utility asked me lots of questions which I answed with the default answer because I don't know it and thought it would be more efficient than I would. Well, after this, I think the disk has perhaps non-resolved problems. How can I determine this ? What could now happen ? I'm used to work on OpenVMS and here we have command analyse/disk to see bad blocks analyse/disk/repair to repair problems And I know that when a disk has bad blocks often their number increase and the disk dies ! Is it the same on these scsi disks on linux boxes ? Thanks |
