backing up

Ok, i know this is not a linux question but i am desperate right now. I had a virus on my system and i cannot start win 98. All i can do is press F8 and start in command line and copy everything to floppies but it is going to take me years to put all my data on floppies. Does anybody know how to backup my data? I have an external zip drive but i cannot get it to work on dos, and i cannot write to cds on dos even if i initialized the cd. So if anybody knows how to fix this please let me know :).

Do you know anyone with a computer? you can put your HD in theirs...and copy em over.

Why happens when you try to boot into 98? tried safe mode?

I have three computers at home so i can hook it up to one of my other computers but they both have linux on them. I dont know how to do that from DOS. I've tried the safe mode but it says "windows cannot find Explorer.exe, you have to reinstall windows".

First thing i would do is get into DOS in safe mode (hold down f8 when the computer is booting)

Then i would use a command line text editor like edit (which is found on almost all boot disks) to open the file c:\windows\system.ini and in that file, you will find a line that refers to the location of the desktop shell you are using. By default it should say something like "Shell = Explorer.exe"

Just first make sure that line hasnt been altered and still points to explorer.exe, if all seems fine, then just make sure explorer is still where it needs to be at c:\Windows\Explorer.exe

If that all works then i dont know what to suggest as a fix

Hey,
I've fixed the problem. I had Norton Antivirus and i think my cousin put Explorer.exe in the quarentine with mistake, because i've found the old version there. I copied it again and it works now, i think i copied it to wrong place before. Anyways, thanks for replying everyone :)
