AVI file association missing
I accidentally removed the AVI in mime type, right now, there's no way that I can right click an Avi file and associate a player with it. When I choose open with and assign mplayer or xine, after clicking ok, then try to open the file, no associations again. When I go back to open with, no program is assigned. It's just like it can't remember the associations. I've tried using KDE and AVI works there.

On RH8, in gnome, under the "Preferences" menu you will see "File types and Programs". Open that and look under "Video" for "Microsoft Video". Verify that that is pointing to the correct application.

I already did. Everytime I associate and choose OK, the association is lost again. Please help. Am considering reinstallation tomorrow.

I see, I just double checked on my system and I get the same problem. Of course I don't have mplayer or xine installed, so I can't check that.
