Auto login default user?

I've got an idea and I want someone to tell me it's possible. If it's not you can tell me it's not. but I really want someone to tell me it's do able.

I have a Mandrake 9 linux box (recently RH 8) acting as a server in my network. it's between my internet router and and windows xp pro network. mainly it's a cacheing server but does dns for my network and network auth.

anyways I have that box tucked away in an electronics closet, I don't have a monitor hooked to it or anything like that. Everything that I do on it I can do from webmin. Except log-in. this usually isn't a problem since I measure up time of that box in weeks. I do occasionally pull it out for other work

my question is is there a program or a relativley easy script I can come up with that would login under a user when the computer is turned on? I'm an expert with windows machines but I've only been in the world of hybrid networks for a few months and I mainly just using BIND, Samba and Squid oh and of course apache.

better than that (this may be a stretch.) I would REALLY like for the thing to start booting and get to the prompt for logon. then have say 20-30 seconds waithing for a logon from root or other user and if it's not given in that time then it would login to the user I have set up as my user for it to run under as a server.

any help? thanks in advance for any info or suggestions on how to do this or how not to do this.

In the Mandrake Control Center there is a setup for auto logon. However you can use remote admin like ssh or vnc for everything else that can't be done by webmin.

It should be possible to run the server without having to login.

Thanks. I just got mandrake 9 so I'm still getting used to it. it used to be a red hat 8 system and I was talked into giving mandrake a try.
