Audio stopped
when I run the audio test it works perfectly, but If I try to play a wave file in audacity or from firefox I get silence.
1) I have new sound card SB0570 [SB Audigy SE] the card was working perfectly yesterday and all direct tests are fine 2) I also have the builtin VT8233/A/8235/8237 AC97 Audio Controller working perfectly yesterday and all direct tests are fine 3) I have checked the connection to the jacks and they are set correctly 4) I have set the primary card to VT8233/ and set the connection and like wise for the other. ( I checked each of these settings separately one at a time) 5) pulse audio configure is enabled 6) the MIDI drivers are loaded 7) the last update covered many files on the system audio was working prior to but not after.... |
This is probably dealt with better by the OpenSUSE forums.
They have a script to determine multimedia issues: http://forums.opensuse.org/english/g...-reddwarf.html |
Solved: missing Audio
Thanks for the response, But I have found a (strange) solution.
I have to clear out the sound configuration (both built in and external card. Also removed the card). I then reconfigured the built it piece. This is where it is strange. Within this process you can select a quick, normal or manual configuration. If I select the quick or normal solution the test works but attempts with the utilities directly or as plug-in to a browser return silence. When I use the manual configuration, I opened it up but did no make any changes. I then completed the install. Now both test and utilities work. P.S. I tried this after I got the bug fix dealing with an incorrect volume set ting to 0.... |
Volume set to zero or mute is a common issue in GNU/Linux (not so much these days but anyway) :)
What reconfiguration script/program did you run? Is it commandline? |
Standard YAST for SUSE 12.3
through the GUI The last update happened before the 7th of June. I spent the 8th & 9th cleaning up. |
