audio recording software

I must say, I have now become an avid Linux user for probably half a year now and have grown to love it....even more than Windows on a lot of levels. Besides being a geek, I am also a musician and right now, still do my music recording on Windows. Has there ever been any advancements in putting recording software (good stuff, not something like "Sound Recorder" or any of that) on Linux? I haven't really looked into it myself but I may research come soon. But I figured to ask you all 1st. Say things like Cool Edit Pro, drum looping software, Cakewalk, etc.

And actually, if my coding skills were any better than just "mediocre" I'd create one myself. :o :p :)
