Attempting to use phone through modem as mic/speaker

This might sound crazy, but I would like to configure something that would allow me to use a phone connected to my modem(currently unused) and use it as a headset. I have a few questions:
1. Is this (theoretically) possible?
2. Have there been other attempts to do this?
3. Is there anyone willing to help in this adventure?

Well, you could use your modem to dial numbers for you through your computer... you could even then take the output (from the speaker of the modem) and pass it back to your soundcards line-input to record the calls, but there are easier way's to do this for sure.

For a headset? No. All the modem and the phone share is the land line signal. The phone translates it to sound you can understand and the modem translates it to binary so the computer can understand.

But, hey! Give it a try and let us know how it went...

I have done a little research. From what I figure, the computer sends a digital signal to the modem to be converted to an analog signal. Three questions again:
1. Is the analog signal outputted through the same line as what is sent to the phone?
2. What is the modulation technique used?
3. Is there any way to send raw binary data to the modem?

1. Yes
2. digital signal modulation
3. Yes, AT command set...
