at the prompt...

i am confused about the two prompts that i get before booting the FC 2 linux.
one of the prompts is === kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.5-1.358smp
and the other is === kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.5-1.358

i want to ask what is the function of the two...
can only one of them be used???
plz explain

The one with "smp" at the end is compiled with SMP (Symettric Multiprocessor) support. You should use it if you have a chip with hyperthreading, dual cores, or more than one CPU in the machine.

Hi -

Apparently you can choose to boot either of two kernels.

Use "kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.5-1.358smp" if you have a multi-CPU ("Symmetric Multi-Processor") system.

'Hope that helps!
