aRts trouble...

I don't think that I've seen this problem anywhere else, so I'm going to go ahead and post a new thread after searching the forums extensively.

Here's the problem. Whenever I log in to KDE (I use the new 3.4.2, but I had 3.4.1 and I had the same problem) I get this message:

Informational - artsmessage
Sound server informational message:

Error while intializing the sound driver:

Couldn't connect to server

The sound server will continue, using the null output device.

This is frustrating, as then I have no sound playing through my sound card (which, by the way, is a Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit 7.1).

It is not unsolvable, however. To remedy the problem, all I have to do is:

dremelofdeath@croissant ~ $ pkill artsd

and the sound server restarts correctly. This is a crazy problem that I'd like to fix.

Also, if it's any help, I'm using Gentoo Linux 2005.0 on a 2.6.12-gentoo-r6 kernel.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I get the same message in Mepis and it means that my sound isn't configured properly. I have to reconfigure everytime I reboot.

Is your sound configured perfectly? It looks like there is something wrong with the config, much the same as mine.

Stupid solution.
Since "pkill artsd" helps, you can make a script:
Code:
#!/bin/bash
pkill artsd
in ~/.kde/Autostart

Don't forget to
Code:
chmod +x script_name
~~~Edit~~~
Or
Code:
#!/bin/bash
sleep 5
pkill atsd
