Talking

There is a command line option and a KDE option available which I find useful...

In KDE menu, System, SysV Configurator, click on the service name then from the top menu select start, stop or restart. The tick in the box is whether the service starts at boot or not.

From the command line, service ~~~ restart (or stop or start).
The ~~~ needs to be the service name, eg ftpd, nmbd etc.

Be aware that messages like ~~~ starts OK, are not always correct. Most programs have an /var/log/~.errors file you may need to check for further info.

Rgds.
