ARGH! Sound frustration!
Alright, my sound set up is driving me nuts here.
I am running RH9 with Gnome first of all.
So I was trying to listen to mp3s in XMMS. I double click on the one I want to play and I get that dreaded error about "Check that you have the correct out put plugin and that your sound card is configured correctly."
So I check xmms's settings. I've picked the esound plugin, which I think is correct (that's the sound server, right, so multiple progs can access the sound card at once?).
So I try again. Same error.
So I go to check if the sound card is set up right. In RH, I go to my gnome menu, then System Settings, then Soundcard detection. Try playing the test sound. It plays perfectly.
So I try xmms again. Now it works!
However, each time I reboot, I have to go and do this test sound. It must be initializing something, but what ? How can I make it so I can play my mp3s right off the bat?
Thanks!
