are fs requests synch or asynch?


hello,

im hoping to find out if fs disk requests are done in a synch. or an asynch. manner...

depends on the filesystem and how its mounted. usually asynch, but thats no guarentee. check man mount, and then look at your fstab, the default is async I think.

Hi,

Can you please elaborate on what you mean,
exactly? Are you asking whether the file-systems
do write-caching or not?

Tinkster,

I am just wondering if the filesystem (ext2) sends out some request for data, will it submit other requests while it is waiting for the first one to complete or will it wait for completion and then send out its next request. For writes I guess this would amount to write caching to some degree...
