You should also be aware that the term, "application server," is an extremely broad one.

ColdFusion, in its day, was a <cfvery><cfinteresting></cfinteresting></cfvery> ... ... "application server," but the highly-refined architecture of "(Sales)Force.com" has also been described using that same moniker.

Basically I am on the learning curve in jboss , so I was looking more appropriately for explanation of terms like jndi , datasource , jdbc, jms, ejb etc

and other related stuff, like what is a connector and relevant stuff.

actually jdbc is explained very well here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JDBC and the others probably too.
But you do not need to understand all of them in one. Just try to use them and you will understand their usage/functionality.

Actually I was experimenting with Wildfly 7 , so was looking for jboss specific documentation which would explain terms like , what is a container, its types , jdbc , jndi , what is a connector etc

I managed to get java ee 6 tutorial pdf at docs.oracle.com which pretty much gave me all I could ask for. duh.

On a personal note , this java application server concept is simply too complicated and heavy. Programmers are likely to grasp it faster since they know the concept of OOPS , and its just the OOPS concept extended all thew way , the way I see it. IMHO its not easy to be a jboss admin unless you know all this stuff.

Fortunately I knew a thing or two about java programming from old days so my head hurts less now.
