Apache daemon gone?

Ok, gang! I installed Knoppix on the harddrive and set up this and that....no problem. Set up my httpd.conf and did "#apache restart" and it restarted and worked fine. Well, then I decided to apt-get update, upgrade, and dist-upgrade to update my system. Now, my Apache isn't working! The apache files and my website files are there and everything, but when I drop to command line and type "#apache restart" it comes back saying "command: apache not found" or whatever. Please help!

Thanks!

Troy

apachectl would be the command your looking for, not apache. Try that and see what it gives you.

That didn't work either I ran a search for apachectl on the computer and it came back with nothing. So...I decided to reinstall apache by "apt-get --reinstall install apache" as root. This is what I get back:

root@mainserver:/home/troy# apt-get --reinstall install apache

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
apache: Depends: apache-common (< 1.3.28-0) but 1.3.29-1 is to be installed
E: Broken packages

HUH?

Do you think I should just remove 'apache' 'apache-common' and 'apache-utils' using "apt-get --purge remove {package}" and then reinstall it?

Thanks!
