Apache 403 Forbidden: where is my 'www' user?

Hi.

I installed Apache 2.0.52 on my FC2. It works OK, but
when I try to make a VirtualHost, I get a '403
Forbidden' message.

In addition, I get this error message at 'error_log':
-------------------------
(13)Permission denied: /home/mydomain-com/.htaccess pcfg_openfile: unable to
> check htaccess file, ensure it is readable
--------------------------

I've been recommended to grant 'www' user with read and execute
permissions. But I don't find 'www' user (neither 'apache') within
'/etc/passwd'.

I installed Apache by using source code, but I did't create
a 'www' user. Any suggestion?

Thank you very much.

Look into httpd.conf; which user/group is Apache configured to run as?
Give that user and/or that group read permissions on the virtual host's files (read+execute for directories).

If the user is "root", you should urgently add a www user and group to your system and change httpd.conf accordingly.
If the user is "nobody", you should also do so (but not so urgently ;-)

Give the www user no shell and don't allow him logins.

Regards
ric.
