aol dial-up for Linux


I just installed Ubuntu on a clean harddrive. How do I connect to the web using aol dial-up which is my service provider. Is there an aol CD rom for linux?

I would suggest checking AOL's website or doing an internet search on the terms AOL and Linux. The last I knew you couldn't do AOL dial-up from Linux. My understanding is that AOL does not use the standard Point-to-Point Protocol (which Linux handles easily). Therefore it requires AOL's proprietary software to be running on your computer. (Doing heavens knows what, IMHO.)

You might want to consider changing ISPs. If you are in the U.S., I know there are ISPs around that use the standard protocols and therefore don't require special software. (I am paying $99/year to such an ISP for dial-up.) And it was my impression that AOL had jacked up dial-up prices in an effort to "persuade" people to move to broadband. But it's your decision.
