anyone know how to bypass/retrieve rar archive passwords?


title says it all. In case anyone is wondering, yes its perfectly legal. I am the type of person who uses different passwords for just about everything and apparently I have finally failed to remember one (i must be getting old )

well, aren't you supposed to be unable to retrieve them? I mean, what's the use of a password, if you could retrieve or bypass it just like that?

in plain english: no, and I could think that if you figure that out, remember to tell the rar-inventor guys too. they just might be interested.

lost rar passwords can be brute forced, but i cant think of a app for linux off the top of my head.

Apparently, there are many rar password recovery tools under Windows (like at http://www.rarpasswordcracker.com/), but nothing that I can find for Linux.
