anyone have idea where firefox stores youtube videos?
Hello,
For a while this has been a piece of cake; I told my kids to save repeatedly downloaded Youtube files into their home folder by copying them out of the /tmp folder before closing the website to save on unnecessary downloads. And that worked until a few days ago. Something has changed in Firefox 3.0.12 I would say as I can't find them in there anymore. Has any one else noticed this? Or better, does any one know what and how things have changed and if we can still do this in a similar way? Thanks Ron |
I don't know the exact location since I switched back to FF2 after having general performance issues with FF3. But I use a plugin called NetVideoHunter and it works pretty well. Lightweight with a simple interface.
Otherwise have you tried looking around in ~/.mozilla/firefox/ for any temporary files? |

I have installed an extension called 'DownloadHelper', still experimenting with it. I preferred getting it out of /tmp as it was too easy. thanks anyway. Ron |
I am running Firefox 3.0.13 as I type this and I'm able to grab youtube videos out of /tmp and have not made any config changes that would effect that I'm pretty sure. Also worked with 3.0.11 but can't say I've ever used 3.0.12 though I don't think it would make a difference.
There have been certain instances where I couldn't locate it there, but I could never come up with an explanation for those times, seemed to be a weird fluke. I think it had something to do with wireless connection interference, and possibly the browser not communicating right with certain sites. |
I am using FF3.5 now and it seems to store it in /tmp again. no idea what really fixed it. may be I stuffed up a config file somewhere, not that I have knowingly been poking around in them.
