Any window managers similar to windowmaker?

Anyone know of a window manager that is similar to Windowmaker that is easy to install that dosnt need to add other files to get it to run/compile?

I tried to install windowmaker and it was a nightmare, got dependency errors then got the files it said it needed, got errors compiling those then got the files those needed and got errors installing those so finally i gave up.

hi

what functionality are you looking for when you mean something like window manager. a complete list of available options(almost) is available here

Are you looking something like WindowMaker in which matter? Lightweight/Ease of use desktop ? If so, I would recommend Blackbox/Fluxbox if you've not already tried :). I can see you are using RedHat 9.0. If so, I hope you have apt-get/synaptic installed on it, otherwise you are losing the best thing I've found for this distro :).

If you do, have it, type:

apt-get install blackbox

then

apt-get install bbkeys

If you don't have/know about apt-get/synaptic then visit:

http://freshrpms.net/

If you want to know more about black or fluxbox, visit:

http://blackboxwm.sourceforge.net/

www.fluxbox.org

Good luck

Afterstep is very much like WindowMaker, in fact, WM was formed off of Afterstep.

Try fluxbox or icewm

For Red Hat 9, you will want to install rpm's with the command
rpm -Uvh package_name

Search google for their homepages or
search for them on
http://rpm.pbone.net/
use the advanced search
