Another TightVNC Problem

I'm running Red Hat 9.0 with the newest version of TightVNC server. I would like to be able to see my entire desktop and not start another session. (Like windows and VNC work). If this isn't possible, how can I use the session created by TightVNC(all i get is a X cursor on a grayish screen). Please help. I have just rin the vncserver command without any arguments. I would like to be able to use TightVNC like VNC works with the Desktop sharing porgram included with redhat, but this password expires after an hour. Please help. Thanks.

this has been asked plenty of times here before. you need to enter a window manager into ~/.vnc/xstartup, e.g "/usr/bin/blackbox"

It's possible to share a kde3 desktop using a vnc compatible server I can't think of at the moment. Generally though it isn't possible due to the fact that it's an inherit security risk in an operating system where mulitple users and networking are inherit elements.

i have a p200mmx, mandrake 9.0 linux box that i'm running d2ol DC project on. i'd like to have remote access for maintenance purposes. i loaded tightvnc server, tightvnc viewer, and docs, but can't seem to be able to locate the docs

when i select tightvnc, i get the shell, and xserver dialog box. what do i input into each? the p200 will have the server, and a different box will access through a local lan w/ cat53 cable, rj45 connectors (patch), a 10/100 linksys ethernet switch, the p200 has a functioning 3com 3c509 etherlinkIII 10 mbps isa NIC, the viewer box has a realtec 8139 10/100 NIC. everthing should work. also, how do i determine what the address of the p200 box is (command, and what konsole/ shell???)? i'd like to input the ip of the p200 box, and a password as well! thanks for any input!

btw, are the commands different, or the same regardless of linux distro???

also, i'm using kde, and it seems a little slow w/ my onbd graphics (s3 virge 2meg vid). mb is RU430HX, 64meg ram. i'd like to reduce the "acceleration" down to get things working faster- how do i do this? icewm, blackbox seem to be better, but seem to lack the functionality of kde (missing things???).

Okay. I am a complete noobie. What exactly do I need to add to my ~/.vnc/xstartup file? Thanks.

I know that, but entering either exec /usr/bin/blackbox or /usr/bin/blackbox doesnt work. Also, what is the path to gnome? Thanks. I looked in the documentation but was unable to find anything on the subject. What exactly should my xstartup file have in it?

maybe you don't have blackbox
