have a question. I am trying to rip a CD using KOnCD on a RedHat 7.3 kernel 2.4.18-10. as its ripping I get the error out of disk space. After doing a little research I found its writing to the /tmp/cdimage.xx that /tmp partion is only 340 meg and after deleating the cdimage file its shows its 79% used. how do I go about making that partion larger?? or what other software is out there that will handle my IDE burner ..
If you have alot of extra space somewhere else, instead of increasing your temp space (which you should do anyway) you could just point your cdripper to a different directory. BTW, I have found GRIP to be the best ripper for me. You might wanna give it a try and see what you think. You can get it off your distro's CDROM probably, or from www.freshmeat.net
As for how to increase a partitions size:
If you have blank, free space, download and use a program called parted. It's also available at www.freshmeat.net or probably from your distro's CDROM.
Ok .. I dont know if I am ready to resize anything as of yet .. so ... here are some other questions...
I installed the drivers for my video card .. and used the / to do it in ... am I safe to deleate the folder that they expanded in? ... they where tarballs I just ran the tar command and they created there own folder.
Also there is a 12 meg Kernel file called kernel-source-2.4.18-10.i386.rpm.part am I safe to deleate that as well? ..
Thanks again! ..
Many Many hours later .............................
Yeh you can delete that, as long as you keep the tarball if you wish to install it again...
And the file...it seems to be only 'part' of a downloaded file...note part at the end of the filename...well you can delete it if you want...you started downloading it or just resume it if you want....up to you
You should create a directory in temp or home, and keep files a little more organized. Putting things in / isn't always the greatest of ideas, especially when doing "house cleaning".
as for the tarball folder, Garry is right, but to add:
The folder it created can be moved instead of removed. Move it to your home directory or something, and then if you ever need to reinstall or uninstall, you will need the source folder and you will have it.
