Anonymous Surfing with Proxies

Hi all, I am a recent convert(dabbled a bit in the past year), but now intend to stay with linux and not install windows again if I can help it

I used to use a program called A4Proxy. I loaded a list of proxies in it, it did anon and speed checks on them all, I then selected the one I wished to use and then pointed my browser at this client proggy. Is it possible to do this in linux, I am using Mandrake 10.0 and Opera 7.23 final? I know I can install the proxies manually, but I still want to have a proggy that will do testing on many thousands of proxies so I can then select the fastest and most secure to use. If I can use the proggy as a localhost client, then all the better.

Any ideas anyone?

Cheers
Asif

Basic anonimity and speed checking is quite easy to do. Wget a remote (proxy judge) page and traceroute or ping the host. Dunno if there's apps that provide the (relative) ease of having things done tru a GUI, but there sure is apps to automate checking proxies. Just Google for it, the "better" proxy forums might list some apps too.

I don't know of a specific app, but try running searches at these sites - you're bound to find some interesting projects:
