What does it use as an authantication and assigning IP method? If it is DHCP I think it is doable, just configure NIC for DHCP, it might be off question if it is a PPPoE, but again roaring penguin http://www.roaringpenguin.com software might work.
Ok it was for DSL, as for dial up I don't think you can connect to AOL servers with linux, but I heard there is an AOL port for linux available on the net, try google search.
Just to take away any doubt...no you surely cannont connect to AOL via dial-up and last I checked (maybe a year ago or so) you cant even connect to AOL via DSL. but since you are running through another OS (win 2k) it might work (i dont see why not) but i dont kno how to get such a thing to work. post this question on the network forum....maybe you'll get something then.
Originally posted by WindowsZombie How might a newbie access the internet if he's on dsl and uses America Online as an ISP. Heck, even dial up access would be fine.
I'm on a Windows network, with a Windows 2000 machine acting as a proxy server for Windows 9.x boxes.
Thanks
You may want to go to Freshmeat.net and do a search for pengaol. I have it installed and believe I am almost there as far as connecting to aol through this somewhat hack for dialup.
