AMD or Intel

I'm in the search for a new PC.
The choise is between AMD 1300 and Intel PIII 1000.
Motherboard for the AMD would be Micro Star something.
Is there any special problem with amd or intel with linux on it?

Now I'm using Red Hat so that's what I will be trying first.

I've always found http://www.overclockers.co.uk to be a good source of the details on the Athlon motherboards, if you want to ask questions they have a forum too, and its based on vBulletin so you'll feel right at home.

I dont' know of any issues ever with Intel and Linux.
I recently switched to AMD though, just as good quality and just as fast for less amount of money.
Haven't seen any problems yet using AMD with Linux.
I say go with AMD.

AMD RULES!

I may be a little biased, since I like to root for the underdog, but AMD just makes a better processor all around.

Tests show it to be as fast or faster than equivalent speed Intels, and cheaper. Plus, they are very durable.

I would definately go with AMD

I run AMD on all my Linux boxes and have never had a problem.

For the money they perform better than any Pentium chips I have tried with Linux.

AMD

I have both, they work with no problems, I have an MSI with AMD processor. It is very fast and the bios is great. Also you may want to setup lm_sensors to monitor temps, voltages, and fans. This works great on my board and there is a panel applet for it.

I know that the Promise ULTRA DMA card will work with it in 7.1 RH so you can have up to 8 IDE devices. Also it had no problems with the On board ATA 100 controller.

Make sure you get a good case with minimum 300w power supply.

I have an Antec case full tower and it is great. Many problems can result with either of the processors you are looking at if you have a small power supply.

For me it's the motherboard more thatn the CPU. What motherboards are the AMD people here using?
