Welcome to LQ.
What makes you believe that screen resolution is the problem?

Which distribution has this problem? Is it a fresh install or has this just started up after some time running properly?

How for through the boot process do you see? Can you get as far as the grub menu?

You can normally enter the system through the rescue option in the menu or by using a live distro. Screen resolution is handled automatically by the X server - but it can be set in a configuration file - /etc/X11/xorg.conf in most distros.

Screen Resolution

Hi Simon

Thank you for your reply. I think it is a screen resolution problem because I get a picture during the start of the boot process but on completion the screen goes blank. . It is the 9.10 version which I am trying to load. The previous version worked perfectly. John

Get 10.04 - there were issues with 9.10 which are fixed in the latest release.

It would be nice if you presented the solution along with marking this thread as [Solved] via the thread tools.

This would be nice for someone that searches for information that may be similar.

Yeah - thanks for letting us know but ... how did you solve this John?
You were posting anyway so you may as well tell all those other people with the same puzzle so they don't have to go through what you did.
