ALT-CTRL F(X) logs out XWindow session

I'm starting my RedHat 8.0 with init5 and using KDE.

When I press ALT-Ctrl-F2 to utilize a console the KDE session logs me out. When I go back to Alt-F7 I have to log in again. This doesn't happen on my SUSE system.

Is there some sort of security setting I can't find that causes this logout, or do you think the X is crashing?

Thanks for your time
JC

Check your messages file in /var/log. See if you could find any information there?

And one more question, did you change anything in /etc/inittab file?

You mean Ctrl-Alt-F2, right?

If this causes KDE to logout or X to crash, then that's not supposed to happen. When you log into one of the text-level consoles and show a process list, are the X and KDE processes running?

Thanks for your replys..

RedHat loaded the VESA drivers during the installation. I loaded the latest drivers from NVIDA and the X session no longer crashes when I switch to to a text-level console screen. Problem solved.

Thanks,
