Unhappy AHHHHH I've been hosed

Well, I really did it to myself this time. Trying to update SANE, found all kinds of dependencies. So, I figured I should update or get the needed lib files to get SANE to work. I just randomly picked Freetype2 to update first. It wasn't available as an RPM so I had to compile it. I DID read the README in install files. I followed the directs. Were I messed up was in trying to make a ln -s.

I kept getting a message "file already exists". So I deleted to file and tried to make the link again. Same message. Before I got a chance to through my computer out the window I figured I better sleep and think of how to solve this, what I thought, simple update.

I'm sure you can see what is coming now. That's right, I couldn't start up KDE. It need freetype. I'm hoping the solution with be to simply goto my disttro CD, find the RPM for the original Freetype that was installed, install it and everything will be fine. Course, this would be in an ideal world!

Wish me luck, I'll let you all know what happens.

Erik

are you sure that you were making the link correctly? Did you run ldconfig -v and verified that freetype was in your library path?

The source distribution of freetype works fine, although you will mess up dependencies in a package-based install.
