After running 'man', can't get out?

Hi,

Whenever i use 'man' to check out something, when i get what i want to know, how do i exit and return to the prompt where i can type again? I tried control + d, or + q. I tried control + z but i heard that i only puts it in the background. How do i really close it? I mean, how do i 'exit' man?

thnx

If there are many pages you get next one by pressing space. If it's really wrong try ctrl+c.

Run man man to find out all the commands when viewing man pages. q is just the command to terminate the man viewer. Ctrl-Z is used to suspend a process. This key is part of the shell and doesn't have anything to do with viewing the man pages. To kill a running process you would usually use Ctrl-C.

man pages are formatted and piped thru less for viewing. less has single key commands that are entered at the : prompt at the bottom of the page. q = quit, b = back a page, space = forward a page, etc.. Try h and see what you get.
