It's probably cached somewhere, It's just does not seem likely that you have a normal dsl connection and that it gets 8 Mb/sec
I really don't see kernel.org having that kind of upload speed.
That's amazing

why does something need editing? I did not want to mix those two posts, if that's what you mean. I was trying to find out the download speed of the site, and did not want to mix it with the joke about the 8Mb internet connection to kernel.org

No problem, glad I could clear it up for you.
Here are some typical max speeds reported from popular servers
ftp.netscape.com 310k/sec
ftp.aol.com 280k/sec
ftp.microsoft.com 67k/sec
ftp.flashcom.com 66k/sec

another suggestion
Supersadsmile,
If you try posting your question here they may be able to advise you as it's mandrake specific. And I can only presume that once you get/configure the modem for one distro, then trying something else shouldn't present too much of a problem.

John

Well, like David pointed out, Kilobite and a kilobyte are not the same thing. There are 8 kilobits in 1 kilobyte...so therefore, if you say that you download at 1150kb/sec, sure I believe you after you divide that by 8, and get the true speed of 143.75kilobytes per second. Which is standard for DSL...so do not get confused with when you talk about KiloBytes and Kilobits.
cheers!,

This is mainly for Yngwin...
Have you managed to get your speedtouch330 working with linux yet?
I too have a 330 - and would like to get it up and running. I have mandrake 9.0, RH7.1, and E-Smith 5.6. Im particularly keen to get it working with E-smith or RH7.1, so i can run a server/NAT router/firewall at home, without having to buy a router!
Cheers

Don't know about Yngwin,
But I have now parted company with my "turquoise cow shit", and upgraded it to a SAR110 so I don't have any worries about the hassle of trying to manage the config of the speedtouch.
I thought that given it's price, the SAR110 was a good price (mine came from an aquaintence who is an IT professional - I presume he got it for a customer originally and I gave him 70 sheets for it so even cheaper).
But as mentioned by David Phillips earlier, in thread, I now understand why he recommends the "router/ethernet" method (much like the rhythm method but with copper cabling!!).
regards
John
