RH 7.1 and RH 8.0 are not kernels. They are different versions of a distribution. Yes, they can coexist and share the swap partition, if that's what you're asking.

Oh Again I am sorry for the insufficient feed back given to you. I already have kernel 2.4.2-2 kernel. Now I want to put the kernel of redhat 8.0 too. So how can I put it and give a link to LILO so that I can boot it through LILO. Please help me as I am stuck with this. Do it disturb my old kenel? .I put the old kernel even though I like the Rh 8.0 kernel because my modem supports only kernel series of 2.4.*. My modem is sm56 pci modem.
So what should I do? Or Do you know any means so that I can make the redhat 8 compatible to my sm56 pci modem?
A bunch of thanks in Advance.
Bye.

So you want to update your kernel. If you install it via rpm, it should add a boot entry for the new kernel in your LILO.conf. No worries, it wont replace the old one. You will still be able to choose the old version from your boot prompt.
