adding module to vanilla kernel

ok,
this has been driving me crazy, and i hope it's the right category for this question. I've been having many problems with an external firewire enclosure, and finally, i've managed to get it work using suse 9.0 and 2.4.21-99 kernel. however if i'm going to use 2.4, then i prefer to use the latest.
my laptop has a buggy bios, and i need to patch powernow-k7.c to use cpu scaling of my athlon mobile (laptop is nx9005 by the way)
The problem is, vanilla kernel does not include powernow, like 2.6 does !!!. the kernel that comes with suse 9.0 (2.4.21-99) includes powernow modules.
Using 2.6 kernels, i could easily use the config file included in dvd, for compiling vanilla kernel, because both contained the powenow drivers. now, the version of kernel that came with suse 9.0 cd includes powenow and vanilla does not.
basicly, how do i include powernow module in vanilla kernel source and compile it ?
Best Regards
