add icons by script

I think that I explained in one of post that I have 24 computers with linux to configure. So I decided to make one script. But I understand just a litle of scripts, But I already make one that functions. But it wanted to add some things…

For example:

- Which the commands to add icons (shortcuts) to the panel?
- Has some command that adds shortcuts of programs to the environment of of work?

for new users, in /usr/share
and that'd make the .default files for your X

Which windows manager ?

the icons are in /home/HOMEUSERNAME/.icons

I saw already some stuffs in /etc/fstab
IPSERVER:/usr/share /usr/share nfs defaults 0 0

Regards

The icons of pannel are not in /home/HOMEUSERNAME/.icons, but in:
/home/username/.gnome2/panel2.d/default/launchers/

But the problem is:
If I add an icon in pannel it appears in /home/username/.gnome2/panel2.d/default/launchers/
But if I add an icon in /home/username/.gnome2/panel2.d/default/launchers/, the icon don't appears in pannel.

Is your script owned and run as root ? Could be a permission/ownership issue. Not a gnome user but.. while root may dump an icon file into a users directory, gnome would ignore it if not owned by that user.

Thinh in your script you must determine which user your working with and either su to that owner, add icon.
Or after icon added as root do a chmod to properly set the ownership.

just a thought.
