Question Activate a window from the shell

Hi!

Is there any command / free utility with which I can activate (bring forward) a window from a console shell under X? What I mean is:

agostonbejo@machine# activate_window jedit

for which jedit (an already open window) gets activated. The real thing would be to be able to do this not only with a pid but with (possibly a substring of) the title. (So the line above would activate the window with the title "it's jedit - file.txt".)
I'm using KDE and SuSE 10.1.

Thanks!
Agoston

I'm terribly curious why you ask this question?

Here you are:

Normally I use my text editors in the following way:
# myFavoriteEditor text.txt&

Then my editor comes up, gets active, and I can start editing the file. Now I'm started using jedit, which first opens a window, and all further files are opened in that window. But the jedit window doesn't become active when I enter 'jedit text.txt&', only opens the file, so I have to make it active either by clicking on it with the mouse or alt-tab until I find it in the window list (which takes time depending on how long ago I used that window last time). It drives me crazy and I can't set it up to any sensible behavior in this regard.

I hope I have satisfied your hunger of information.
