Ok, I am encountering a number of problems with my linux installation. I hope someone is kind enough to help out.

Problem 1: XMMS works great for a little while, but if I leave it without playing anything, it randomly decides to stop working. I've tracked the problem to /dev/dsp. If I reboot, the same thing happens. Which leads to my next problem:

Problem 2: I can't shutdown. The computer hangs when I click "log out" in GNOME. I have to hit the power button, then go through the e2fsck deal on start up. Major pain.

Problem 3: My built in wireless card is not being detected. I've installed pcmcia and wireless-tools, but it doesn't detect the card. It is a built-in card and IBM knows of no drivers.

Can anyone help me out here? I am running Slackware 9.0 on an IBM T30 laptop.

maybe you have some GUI problems. cant tell form the info you gave. you need to get the device manufacturer for your wireless so that you can search for a suitable linux driver.

if you are staarting linux you would be better of starting with mandrake or redhat rather than going directly to slacking

I'm not new to linux but this is the first time I've installed in on something as proprietary as a laptop, and I've never bumped into these problems.

Like I said, I contacted IBM about my wireless card and they said that they have no direct information about drivers for it other than some people have experimented with limited success. I was hoping someone out there with a built-in wireless card might have some ideas.

Obviously my shutdown issue is GUI related. I was hoping there might be a simple fix, as I rather like GNOME, and some of my software runs better on it (or at least I know how to configure it from my other computers.)
