Access the remote system over the internet

Hello! I hope I would find the solution for my problem here.
I have vnc (viewer and server) installed in my fc8. I am in Hyderabad. One of my friend is in Delhi. He also installed vnc in his system. We both have private IP's (10. seriece). And we know the public IP of our networks. I want to access my friends desktop using vnc (or other). Can I access it over the internet (because we are not in one network). Please tell me.
Thanks in advance.....

Most likely you need to configure the router and/or firewall to forward t vnc to the machine.

I am not sure about the configuration of the router. And moreover I am one person among 2000 (my LAN contains 2000 systems), and I dont have the permissions to do such things. But I know the what my public IP is. Can I do anything now....
Please

You need to know which ports are allowed on the firewall, so talk to your system administrator.
Also there can be a firewall at the network of your friend
Did you try to connect to your friends public IP?

I tried to access with my friend's public IP like this: vncviewer IP. Then it tells that "unable to connect to host: Connection timed out (110)". And we dont have proxy.

If you don't have permission to change router settings. I would suggest you to use GotoAssistExpress. It will make you to connect two computers evenif the ip is private.

Just google it : GotoAssistExpress

Have a blessed day!
