Hi guys
My friend gave me 3 Mandrake Official 10.0 Cds and told me that this is the full release of the mentioned distro. Well I had probs with alsa and wine and samba so I wanted to reinstall them from the CDs using the install manager found in KDE in each of the mentioned cases the installer prompted me for the 4th cd so I thought my friend gave them to me missing one CD. I went to iso.linuxquestions.org to download the missing 4th CD only to find out there are only 3 CDs available for download.
Have I missed something here. I mean is 4 or 3 Cds and if it is 3 why is the installer prompting me for CD no 4.
Help please
There are four CDs in the "Discover" version of Mandrake. The 4th CD is proprietary software, and other non-*official* stuff. None of which is needed to install Mandrake. Because it contains proprietary software, it cannot be offered for free download, like the other three. When installing, just tell it you don't have the 4th CD (at some point it does ask you, with a box saying something like "Insert CD#4. If you don't have this CD, just press the Cancel button").
When Mandrake is installed, go to EasyURPMI, and set up your repositories to be able to download updates and new software. Set up a "main", "updates", "contrib", and "plf-free" and "plf-nonfree" mirrors, and you will have access to all the non-proprietary apps that are available on the 6-CD Powerpack Edition.
When it prompts you for the 4th CD, hit the "Cancel" button. The Download Edition is identical to the Discovery Edition, except for only having 3 CDs. All you really need to install a running system is the 1st CD. You just get more stuff if you have all three.
