A tip for laptops

IF you have the space for it
you can set up a rescue system on your computer in as little as 75MB
or less
with just the tools to do repair work on your main system
you would leave out things like X networking build and development tools
and include things like ckfs editors and a working copy of your /etc files
if your willing to devote even more space to it you could even have a full set of
packages for your distro

Dell Latitude MMX 233

Neat-o,
Could you please elaborate.. I just installed Slackware 11 on a Dell Latitude, most things work (despite the memory situation), the network is very slow with firefox, ssh works fine though. I'd like to build a minimal system img and re-do the machine from that.

Any info is helpful,

Craig

I set aside a 200 Meg parttion and installed just the requared packages
with out X with out most apps with out any other user accounts than root ( the only time this install will ever be run is to fix the main system ) you will need to read the packages discriptons and decide wether or not you could need a package to work on the system
I set up lilo to dule boot

I did include some games for stress releaf

I even had space left over for a tgz file of the main system /etc and a copy of the kernel

with even laptop hard drives being so big for the last 6 years you could even include a full copy of the distro
packages and setup networking to do net work installs from the laptop My guess for a setup like this would be around 3Gigs
