A little task

Hello All!!

I have a little task and I'd like your help, if possible of course, to do that. I have an Oracle server running in a Red Hat EL3 using an IDE hard disk. The first task I have is to make a SERIAL ATA work in this system and then transport all the system that is into IDE to SATA.

So I have these questions:

1. I have a system running Red Hat using an IDE disk, is it possible just connect an Serial Sata in this machine and make it work??

2. If it is possible to do the above, how can I transport all the data of IDE and put in the SATA disk (like a mirror).

Thank You!!

Rodrigo

Whether RH3 supports that SATA is a question of the kernel they use,
you'll need to look that up on their support site (one of the reasons
you pay for RedHat, no? ;}).... as for the mirroring: it can be done
using md tools, but I wouldn't think it's advisable to use different
models (with different performance) in a mirror.

That said: personally I'd suggest a set-up with more spindles for
oracle, depending on how intense the usage is you should be looking
at having tablespace, indices and redo-logs on a separate spindle
each. If your data is mission-critical I'd go for a solution with
6 mirrored SCSI disks minimum.

Cheers,
Tink
