Some years back, I switched from Microsoft Windows 95 to the Ubuntu distribution. I continued happily using Ubuntu until 11.04, Natty Narwhal. Here I began having different little problems most of which I posted. When 11.10, Oneiric Ocelot was released the problems grew more intense and bothersome. FInally 12.04, Precise Pangolin hit the streets and things started working well again. On to 12.10, Quantal Quetzal hit the streets and again it was a bit more buggy than 12.04. 13.04, Raring Ringtail and 13.10, Saucy Salamander were worse. Since I have a dual boot with Ubuntu and Windows 7, I started using Windows 7 more and more. I gave up on the newer Ubuntu releases and went back to the soid operating 12.04.
I did try other Linux distros, such as Linux Mint, Fedora, PinGuy OS,etc., but none felt as good as Ubuntu.
That's how I am set up now, using MS Windows 7 about 75% of the time and Ubuntu 12.04 the other 25%.
I am curious as to how many, if any, others came across this or similar situations with Ubuntu.
Thank you
I'm pretty satisfied with latest version of ubuntu, must agree that it is buggy but have more features than debian or other solid rock distros. However installing alternative DE solves most problems from me.. currently using openbox on LUbuntu.
Nowadays Canonical considers the versions between the LTS releases to be more or less development releases, to be used by people that want to run bleeding edge software and developers. So with 14.04 you should get a stable (in Ubuntu terms, of course) OS.
Thanks for the replies.
I will,of course, try the 14.04 LST when it comes out. Hey, that's just next month! Holy Moly, Batman, SPRING IS COMING!
Again, thanks everybody.
Greetings
I generally hate it when people make posts proselytizing their favorite distro as a solution to everything, but I'll split some hairs since this one is not my main, so I have no agenda, and I'm not saying it is a solution to anything, just a very worthy competitor of similar style ie: emphasis on simple user friendliness while maintaining speed and stability.
I'm referring to SolydXK and part of the reason I mention it to you is that it is quite common that people who use Linux but still rely 75% on Windows do so a lot for gaming. If this describes you at all I urge you to give it a try. It comes default with Steam and PlayOnLinux and compatibility with Debian's vast repositories. The default desktop(s) sport a welcome window with immediate access to drivers, including proprietary nVidia and ATi, for example. It's very well thought out and organized and extremely solid. It also, so far, does not have canonical's spyware.
Edit:
BTW although the icon to the left under the mini-profile says "Windows 8" (that's really funny) this is solely because I have modified my useragent in Firefox in order to use pipeline to view Silverlight Only movies on Netflix. I boot to Windows 7 once in a Blue Moon.
Edit 2: Wow as soon as I saved Edit 1 it switched to a "?" Weeiird!
