2nd distro installation - Changing partioning with RAID 1
 

Hi,

I recently setup RAID 1 for Ubuntu 8.04 - no problems there. The partitions on sda and sdb are setup identically as follows:

-- HD start --
25GB / (bootable primary partition)
270GB free space (outside any partition)
200GB /home (logical partition)
5GB swap (logical partition)
-- HD end --

Now I would like to install a second distro (either on RAID-1 or not) but I do not feel confident to change the partition table.

In particular, the Debian (Medibuntu) installer issues the following warning: "When RAID is configured, no additional changes to the partitions in the disks containing physical volumes are allowed."
When I freshly installed Ubuntu I did not pay any attention to it but know I wonder what I really means. Could you explain please?

I would like Medibuntu to occupy another 25 GB for / in the available space. Can I use the same /home as for the existing installation without loosing data or should I create a another /home partition and then just mount the existing one if I need to access it?
Also, what about swap? If I choose not to use RAID for this installation will the existing installation complain if I use one of the existing swap partition? Finally, what about the bootable flag. Do I need to set it for the new / partition or will I have to boot into the existing installation and change the grub setup?

Can you help please? What partitioning scheme would you suggest.

You can use the same home partition just use a different user name.
The same swap partition two.

Thanks Duck2006. Yet, I am still not sure what "When RAID is configured, no additional changes to the partitions in the disks containing physical volumes are allowed." means. Does it mean that I cannot add partitions now to use the remaining free space? If that's the case I will have to reinstall and think about partitioning a little harder this time.
