I just installed Linux Redhat Enterprise AS 4 in /usr/src I have 2 directories : kernels and redhat in kernels I have 3 directories : 2.6.9-5.EL-hugemem-i686 2.6.9-5.EL-i686 2.6.9-5.EL-smp-i686 What are all these ? Which one is my kernel? And if I want to compile the kernel , which one I must use? here is some informations : AMD 64 3000+ 2 HDD 120 Gb RAID stripe uname -a =====> ... i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux uname -r =====> 2.6.9-5.EL Thanks |
Your using the 2.6.9-5.EL-i686.
2.6.9-5.EL-hugemem-i686 = Most likely handles more memory, probably above 4GB or so. 2.6.9-5.EL-i686 = The one your apparently using now. 2.6.9-5.EL-smp-i686 = Compiled specifically for dual or more processor support. |
