10.04 boot log file? (increasing boot failures)

Is there a log file of boot process to open, and look for solution to boot failures?

Same type of failures on this desktop, as with 10.04 on another machine (laptop).

GRUBLoader fails to load, defaulting to GRUB prompt. Occasionally is does load properly...

I'm guessing you're talking Ubuntu there... I don't know, but have a look in /var/log.
On Centos there is boot.log and dmesg.

I think I had a BIOS setting wrong, for having an PCI / IDE controller card in the machine.

Disk enumeration does change, depending on default settings and BIOS coding.

Fingers crossed still...

If grub throws errors, I don't think there will be anything in /var/log as the OS has not been loaded yet; I might be wrong though.
