[KERNEL] 2.6 preempt no smooth audio?

successfully working on a 2.4.2x i switched to 2.6
in need of the acpi features to put the libretto to
memsuspend. however, i can't get unbroken play
-back (file or stream) anymore.
disabling 2.6 preempt on makes it bit better, but don't
reach the behavior of a preempt & lowlat'd 2.4.2x.

sound scratches are mainly when switching through
workspaces (lot of drawing/cpu). 2.4 is all right.

the complete system hardware is quite exotic; the lspci output
is scary, so are the dmesg-error messages from acpi (but, iirc,
harmless and with 2.4 also). ide-dma and changing pci latency
timers don't work. [plug'n'pray/acpi]toshiba controller & yenta
compatible pcmcia/pccard controller..

isn't preempt involved in trying to get the system more responsible
and to work with audio/video/media more comfortable?
if i'd like to switch back: is there a backport from the current (2.6)
acpi subsystem for 2.4-kernel's avail?

now, 2.4 *is* fast / responsive! what do do?

thx,
mritch.

ideas?

2.6 kernel is not so stable, so you may want to upgrade to the latest version to follow the development pace, if the problem still exists in the latest version, you may issue a bug report to the kernel mailing list.
