xmame neogeo drivers changed???

does anyone know why the neogeo drivers have changed so much in xmame???
i can use xmame 0.55 to play king of fighters 98 but using a newer version of xmame(0.77 or something i think) it searches for completely different files. Id like to get kof2001 running and the newer xmame supports it but it uses the different files from wat ive got.

btw: xmame 0.55 searchs for files with a .rom extension whereas the newer version was looking for .bin files.

it will help
see src/drivers/neogeo.c
edit it ,find kof2k1 ,it contain several lines as
ROM_LOAD(2k1_c1.rom ,0x200000/*STRAT*/, 0x... /*size*/,0xef000000/*CRC*/)
modefy it from your rom
finally ,recompile your mame
Good luck
