I have two games that run under wine, nearly perfectly. Unreal and Deus Ex. Yet I have a problem. Wine doenst do full screen games well with what I have running on my current X screen. (gnome 2.6 etc) I know this because I can do a Default Safe Terminal thing session from GDM and I run the game and WHEN I set wine/config so that it does NOT use managed windows, the game outputs to full screen jsut fine. But when I DONT have Managed on, but i AM in Gnome the game outputs to fullscreen but none of my input from mouse or keyboard is getting TO the game,. So FOR now i have to run with managed on, and maxmise the window, and deal with alot of wasted space.
I know you can run the command xinit, on a new x screen and have it run just one command (ie the game). Yet I cannot get it to work. I have tried xinit xterm :1. and a new X session pops up on Virtual Terminal 8, and I can switch in and out of it. YET it is only a big 'X' cursor, and a black screen, ntohing happens, xterm does not load up. neither does any other program I pass to Xinit. This happens on my gentoo systems now, and my slackware system. I did not add another screen in /etc/X11/xf86config. I dont know if I need to do that.
So basically, how can I use Xinit to play full screen wine games.
You're messing about with the Managed setting, but what have you got the DXGrab setting set to in Wine's config? It's DXGrab that controls whether the mouse is under the control of DirectX or not (which would be necessary if you're running DeusEx with the DirectX renderer).
What about your "UseXVidMode", "UseXRandR", and "UseTakeFocus" settings? And if you have to run it in a desktop window, why not change the "Desktop=" setting to something the size of your desktop?
Unfortunately, my CD-ROM is in the shop, or I'd run DeusEx and tell you how I'm doing it, but while it can be a bit fiddly, you should be able to run it full screen, iirc. Most of the problems I had had to do with mucking about with deusex.ini and the renderer, and the wine settings, as they generally don't seem to cooperate so well together, from what I remember.
In any case, I understand what you're trying to do (although I don't know how to do it), but I'm not sure it's necessary, is what I'm saying.
